Save the Children Sweden Denmark has developed a protection unit which is working with other regular themes on the issue of child protection. The Save the Children Sweden Denmark protection work will contribute to strengthen care and protection mechanism in Save the Children Sweden Denmark programme. This unit mainly focuses on all forms of abuse, exploitation and violence against children. It provides technical inputs in terms of psychosocial support, positive discipline and child development and protection. It promotes alliance child protection policy applications in the organisational level and also will contribute to develop a national child protection policy in Bangladesh in association with other key actors.
It works actively being the secretariat of the following networks:
1. Campaign to work with men and boys---A National Network of Bangladesh
2. Psychosocial support group
3. Campaign against physical and humiliating punishment against children in Bangladesh.
4. UN Study on Violence against Children working group.
The protection unit has different activities and some major activities include capacity building on promoting positive discipline, psychosocial support ,child development, gender based violence, etc.; awareness campaign, research and documentation, advocacy, material development i.e. IEC on gender based violence, positive discipline, etc. It also works to enhance financial and human resource mobilisation. Besides, the unit does the follow up of the UN study on Violence against Children and maintaining close contact with national, regional, global task group on VAC.
