Overall Vision of country programme

The overall vision of the country programme is to establish a child protection system in Bangladesh, covering both curative and preventive measures.

•    (The overall vision of the country programme is to establish a child secured/protected environment in Bangladesh where all children are enjoying all sorts of rights.) 

•    Create an enabling environment to promote child rights

The overall objectives of country programmes

The objectives of the strategy are:

Reduced number of children whose rights are violated with special emphasis on hazardous child labour, lack of quality inclusive education, disability, ethnicity & children from different social background and violence against children (including child sexual exploitation/abuse, physical and humiliating punishment, trafficking irrespective of gender, race, minority, religious, cultural, political and geographical affiliation).  

•    Government duty bearers and caregivers are increasingly accountable for the fulfillment, protection and respect of children’s and young people’s rights by 2015.

•    Space and opportunities increasingly exist with participation and exercise of citizenship by children and children’s organization by 2015.

•    Civil societies and communities capacity to be proactive in relation to promote and protect child rights has been enhanced.

•    Girls and boys, regardless of their social background, age, ability, gender, class, ethnicity religion, language, HIV/AIDS status, sexual preference, etc. are increasingly enjoying their rights in a diverse and inclusive society.

•     Child protection system has been strengthened.

Implementation strategy

Save the Children Sweden Denmark implements its programmes through direct support to the partner organization through capacity building, knowledge building, advocacy & networking and sustainability. Save the Children Sweden Denmark have five themes to address the issues related with children and some other cross cutting issues to contribute to the themes.

The themes are:

1.  Child labour
2.  Child sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking
3.  Integrated approach to promote community based child rights
4.  Inclusion of children with disabilities
5.  Emergency preparedness and management 

The cross cutting issues are: 

1.  Child rights programming
2.  Child participation, child led organization, media and communication
3.  Advocacy
4.  Good governance
5.  Protection 
6.  Education
7.  HIV/ AIDS
8.  Monitoring and evaluation

Save the Children Sweden Denmark addresses all of its thematic and crosscutting issues through 22 direct partners and 6 strategic partners. The partners are implementing the activities according to the agreed project proposal between Save the Children Sweden Denmark and the respective partners.

Strategic responses

Save the Children Sweden Denmark and partners will implement using the following key strategic responses.

Advocacy and Networking:  Advocacy and networking continued for making the duty bearers accountable for fulfilling, respecting and protecting child rights.

Capacity Building: Save the Children Sweden Denmark, partners, children and key duty bearers have the capacity to address child rights violation through a child rights programming approach with special emphasis on: Advocacy, service delivery, child participation, non-discrimination, HIV/ AIDS, accountability all within the best interests of the child.

Direct Services: Direct interventions to ensure the provision of adequate and quality services to children whose rights are being violated – best practices advocated.

Knowledge building: Research, documentation of practices, monitoring evaluation system, learning and sharing, exposure visit, etc.

Sustainability: All projects will have to be developed with sustainability built into them.
