1974 AD Raise Awareness for Save the Children Adopt-A-School Programme in Nepal

30/01/2010

1974 ADOn January 30th, 2010, Musicology, the management team for 1974AD, in association with Save the Children, hosted an event at Moksh in Kathmandu, where the band presented the experiences they have gathered thus far, talked about the issues that have truly inspired them, and their plans for the entire year as Save the Children’s Youth Ambassador.

The event highlighted the Adopt-A-School (AAS) program of Save the Children being led by 1974AD to help improve teaching and learning environments in public schools in Nepal. Organised as a fundraiser, the event brought together above 70 participants from embassies, INGOs, donor community and business houses, with many individuals and organisations expressing interest to engage in the AAS program of Save the Children and 1974AD.

Mr. Nirakar Yakthumba of 1974AD stated that the band had earned a lot of respect over the years, thanks to the support of their well-wishers. “We felt it was now time to give back to society,” he further added, with children’s issues as their prime area of interest since children represent the future of Nepal. He also expressed that change is possible only if we act towards it, and it is the change in the lives of children that they wanted to see.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Umesh Shrestha, Chief Advisor of Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation Nepal (PABSON), expressed his commitment to bring together as many private schools of Nepal as possible to help improve education standards in public schools under the AAS program. At the event, five private schools formally announced their partnership with 1974AD and Save the Children in the AAS program to support five public schools in different districts of Nepal.

As part of their efforts in the role of Youth Ambassadors for Save the Children, 1974AD has been involved in numerous activities since their appointment back in October: activities such as visiting school children in mid-west Nepal, performing at Save the Children’s fundraising and advocacy events, and spending time with the differently-able children in Bhaktapur. “All these activities have been an eye-opening experience and an inspiration for us to do more,” states Adrian Pradhan, the primary vocalist for the band.
